Programme: MSc in ICT Systems Prof. Maria Petrou studied Physics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, Applied Mathematics in She has been the Head of Communications and Signal Processing Group of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Imperial College London (2006-2009) and she is currently the Director of the Informatics and Telematics Institute of CERTH, She has published more than 350 scientific papers, on Astronomy, Remote Sensing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Colour analysis, Industrial Inspection, Cognitive Vision and Medical Signal and Image Processing. She has co-authored two books "Image Processing: the fundamentals" (1999, second edition 2010) and "Image Processing: dealing with texture" (2006) both published by John Wiley. She has also co-edited the book "Next generation artificial vision systems: reverse engineering the human visual system" (2008). She has supervised to successful completion 41 PhD theses. She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), Fellow of City and Guilds College (FCGI), Fellow of IET, Fellow of IAPR, Fellow of the She has served as a trustee of IET, as the IAPR newsletter editor for 5 years and as the IAPR treasurer for 4 years.
