Dr. Kostas Karatzas

Dr.-Eng. Kostas Karatzas is an Assistant Professor for Informatics Systems & Applications at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece, where he leads the Informatics Applications and Systems Group. He is currently teaching Informatics for Mech. Engineers and Environmental Informatics at the same Dept., and Computational Methods in Environmental Physics at the Dept. of Physics, MSc course on Computational Physics, AUTh. He has served as a visiting Professor at the Department of Engineering and Management of Energy Resources, (University of Western Macedonia, Greece), while he has lectured in various European Universities, including:

  • M.Sc. programme in Environmental Informatics, University of Eastern Finland.
  • EcoKnowledge 2010, Graduate School Course for PhD Students, Aalto University, Finland.
  • PhD-excellence teaching programme, Turin Polytechnic, Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Italy.
  • MSc. Programme in Environmental Management Information Systems, School of Computing Science, University of Oldenburg, Germany.
  • MSc on Digital Media and Arts, University of Edinburgh, UK.

Kostas Karatzas holds a Diploma and a Doctor degree in Mechanical Engineering, and works mainly in the field of informatics applications and systems for Mechanical Engineers, environmental informatics, urban environment management and information systems, environmental data analysis and forecasting with the aid of computational intelligence methods and mathematical models, modular web-based information systems, and e-content engineering applications with citizen service orientation.

Kostas Karatzas:
  • is the author and co-author of more than 140 scientific publications,
  • has served as a reviewer for international peer-review journals including: Environmental Modelling & Software, Atmospheric Environment, Atmospheric Research, Environmental Engineering Science, Science of the Total Environment, Journal of Hazardous Materials, International Journal of Environment and Pollution, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of the Air and Waste Management Association, Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, Water, Air, and Soil Pollution: Focus
  • has served as a scientific committee member numerous international conferences and as an advisory board member of int. publications, with emphasis on Environmental Informatics and Computational Intelligence
  • has been conducting research on environmental information systems and environmental informatics for more than 15 years, being responsible for various EU related research projects.
