Dr Irene Kotsia

Dr Irene KotsiaDr Irene Kotsia is an assistant professor in Audio and Image Signal Processing at the IHU, School of Science and Technology. She received the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2008. From 2008 to 2009 she was a Research Associate and teaching assistant in the department of Informatics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From 2009 to 2015 she was a Research Associate in various UK universities, including Queen Mary University of London, Imperial College London and Middlesex University London.

She was the recipient of the Action Supporting Postdoctoral Researchers of the Operational Program Education and Lifelong Learning (Actions Beneficiary: General Secretariat for Research and Technology) fellowship from 2012 to 2015. She has been a Guest Editor of two journal special issues dealing with face analysis topics and has co-authored more than 40 journal and conference publications in the most prestigious journals and conferences of her field. She has published one of the most influential works in facial expression and FAU detection in IEEE T-IP which has received 400 citations.

Her current research interests lie in the areas of image and signal processing, statistical pattern recognition especially for human behavior analysis (face/facial expressions/body actions) as well as in the areas of graphics and animation.
