Dr Maria Papadopouli

Dr. Maria Papadopouli is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete, and a research associate at FORTH-ICS. She is also a visiting Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. Before joining the University of Crete, she was a tenure-track assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). She received her Ph.D. at the Department of Computer Science, Columbia University, New York. Prof. Henning Schulzrinne supervised her Ph.D. Thesis on “Resource sharing in mobile wireless networks”.

In 2004 and 2005, she was awarded with an IBM Faculty Award. One of her papers received a best paper award and two others received honourable mention. She has given more than 25 invited talks at various universities and research labs world-wide and has co-chaired/organized seven international workshops (e.g., IEEE LANMAN, Cost Action Data Traffic and Analysis, IEEE Mobile Peer-to-Peer Computing, International Workshop on Wireless Traffic Measurements and Modeling). She has served as co-editor in two special issues (with Springer and Wiley) and participated in several international expert panels.

With her team, they have performed extensive measurements/modeling studies on large-scale production IEEE802.11 networks and proposed models to characterize the traffic/access patterns. In the context of this research, they have created an online repository with traces/models/scripts for IEEE802.11 networks available to the research community. She is one of the two national representatives in the EU Cost Action Data Traffic, Monitoring, and Analysis (TMA).

She has taught courses at the University of Crete and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has been invited to give several short-courses at other universities world-wide in the area of wireless networks and mobile computing.

She and Henning Schulzrinne are the authors of the monograph "Peer-to-peer Computing for Mobile Networks: Information Discovery and Dissemination". Springer Eds.,ISBN: 978-0-387-24427-3, 2009.
