Dr Georgios Giannakidis

Dr George Giannakidis holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and a PhD from the Department of Aeronautics, Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, University of London, UK.

He taught as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. University of Thessalia, Greece, in the Greek Air-force Academy, and in the Engineering Department of the Technological Educational Institute of Serres, Greece.

Following a postdoctoral research on the aerodynamics of wind turbines he joined the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) in Athens, Greece in 1997. Since then he has participated in a number of national and international projects on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and energy planning. Since 2006, he leads the Laboratory of Energy Systems Analysis, in CRES. The main research areas of the Laboratory include medium-long term energy planning, renewable energy technology analysis and high renewable integration into the electricity system.

He participates in the Renewable Energy Working Group of the European Energy Network (EnR), and in the Executive Committee of the Energy Technology Systems Analysis Project (ETSAP), an Implementing Agreement of the International Energy Agency, as a national representative.
